Padm Shri Sharda Sinha – Bihar Kokila
Proud of Bihar Padm Shri Sharda Sinha Born on 9th October 1952 in Hulas village in Bihar, Sharda Sinha received her training in music from Raghu Jha, Sitaram Hari Dandekar and Panna Devi. She also obtained degrees from the University of Patna and Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. She has excelled as an exponent of folk music in Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi. Her inimitable style has won her wide popularity and recognition not only in her State but also in other parts of the country and abroad. She has a large number of recordings to her credit. She has given Bhojpuri songs respect and a new dimension At present, she heads the Department of Music, Women’s College, Samastipur. Earlier she has received the Padma Shri. She is also awarded with the phrase “Bihar Kokila” . She has sung also various hit songs in many bollywood movies such as Deswa, “Taar Bijli” from Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2, “Kahe Toh Se Sajna” from Maine Pyar Kiyaand Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and has also produced several music albums such as Dulhin, Pirittiya and Mehndi. Bihar ‘kokila’ Sharda Sinha performed at various national and international cultural programmes . Her other popular songs, included “Paniya ke jahaj se paltaniya bani ahiya piya lele ahiya ho sindurwa Bengal Ke,” “Kahe to se sajani hamaar jogiya,” “Sutal chaliya baba ke bhawanwa,” “Sun ho pardesia,” “Sasuji se lutri,” “Apna sajaniya ke” and “Dulhin dhire dhire chalio.” Sharda Sinha also sang the famous song “Taar Bijli” from Bollywood film Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 and “Kaun Si Nagaria” from Bollywood film Chaarfutiya Chhokare.
